Eggs and sperm are released from the blue fjord mussels in spring.

The larval development occurs quite quickly while the mussel larvae swim around in the water column for about 15-20 days.

In this phase, the mussel larvae are led randomly around by the stream

The seashell farmer gets ready to capture the larvae.
This is done by shaming ribbons / bands which the larvae settle on

When the larva is sufficiently developed and ready for a life as an adhering subject, it’s seeking around with its little foot and tests the conditions.
